• Women's Tennis Tabbed No. 1 in Big 12 Poll

    IRVING, Texas - Baylor's seven-time defending Big 12 champion women's tennis team was unanimously selected to claim the regular season conference title by a vote of the league's head coaches, announced Monday by Big 12 officials.
    While coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team, Baylor earned all nine other first-place votes to earn the pre-conference season nod over Texas. The Longhorns earned the remaining first-place vote and were chosen second, eight points behind Baylor at 73. Teams from the state of Texas claimed the top four spots with Texas Tech and Texas A&M tying for third at 61 points.

    Baylor is currently is 11-3 on the season and ranked No. 8 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. The Lady Bears opened the season with nine consecutive victories, and have beaten two top-10 teams and a total of four ranked teams thus far in 2012.

    Last season, BU streak of 56 consecutive wins over Big 12 opponents was snapped by Kansas State, but the Lady Bears went 10-1 in the league for their seventh straight and eighth overall league regular season crown. Baylor also went on to claims its sixth consecutive Big 12 Championship title and earn a berth in its second-ever NCAA Final Four.

    Baylor and Texas Tech will kick off the entire Big 12 slate, facing off in Lubbock, Texas, on Thursday, March 4 at 3 p.m. The rest of the Big 12 will begin its league-opening matches over the following two weeks.
