Somehow I've downloaded some adware onto my computer that re-routes my browser to atotalsafety.com every single time I open up my browser. I get messages that I have a bug in my registry and I have tons of adware programs trying to get me to install them.

When I go to the adaware website to try and download adaware personal, it reroutes my page to dns404error.com where it tries to get me to download some program called System Doctor.

How in the world do I get rid of this?

I think it is Spy Sheriff and Norton is not picking it up... trying to download Counterspy to see if that'll fix it.

Go through download.com and get both adaware and spybot search and destroy. Run both weekly and you'll do just fine.

I can't even get to adaware. It is blocking the page on download.com

LOL... no. My idiot buddy was trying to show me the Britney Spears pictures.

And the pictures weren't even any good.

Thanks, Rush... I'm running CounterSpy right now. It has found the spyware... I'm just waiting for it to complete the scan.

If for some reason I'm still not able to remove it, I'll give spysweeper a shot.

MisterFresh...

I sent adaware to your gmail account just now. Let me know if it helps.

Well damn, email got kicked back to me. Looks like it didn't send after all. Sorry

You might also want to try Windows Defender to see if that works

I'm thinking that CounterSpy will work... assuming it ever finishes its scan.

Thanks for the help, CL.

In case that doesn't work, go here and download Ad-Aware SE. The best spyware removal software for free that I've found. I've used it for two years and havent had any problems.

http://adaware.authenticdownloads.com/y/download.html

And to prevent spyware from getting on your computer again, I use SpywareBlaster v. 3.5.1. It's a freebie too, can download it from here:

...between these two programs being on my system, I don't have any problems with spyware. Not only are both programs free, but you get free updates all the time.

I'm downloading everything, too. Thanks for the links, all.

I have had a lot of "hidden windows" pop up when I try to shut down my computer at night. Ugh. Oh, and my computer is slower than a Commodore 64.

Or you could get a mac. ;)

Seriously, a NASTY worm was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I was able to get it fixed, but it took too much time and left behind some residual damage.

Now that I have a mac (coming up on a year now), I've had no problems and haven't had to download an anti-virus of any kind.

Sounds like some major spyware-- run those programs, and then do a defrag to get rid of/compress files on your computer. That should help too.
