KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee coach Pat Summitt says senior forward Alyssia Brewer is no longer with the team.
Summitt said in a statement released Thursday that she and Brewer had met and "came to an agreement that she would no longer be a member of the team'' but did not say why.
Brewer will finish the fall semester at Tennessee, and Summitt says she will be offered help if she would like to transfer to another school.
The 6-foot-3 Sapulpa, Okla., native tore her Achilles' tendon before the start of the 2010-11 season but averaged 2.9 points per game, 2.6 rebounds and 10 minutes and made seven starts in 20 games after returning.
She averaged 6.9 points and 4.6 rebounds in 87 career games.

This sounds like a disciplinary decision. Transfer out at mid-year in her senior season? Hmmmm. This will heart the Vols depth in the paint for sure.

She occasionally drew Summitt's ire, though, for inadequate effort on defense and rebounding. Brewer averaged 6.9 points and 4.6 rebounds and had four double-doubles in 87 career games. She was named the most valuable player of the 2010 Southeastern Conference tournament after averaging a team-best 14.7 points and was a McDonald's high school all-American.

They seemed to be OK on 31 August:
“She (Summit) was like: ‘What, the coaches, they’re here. I didn’t think they were going to be here until the first official practice,’ ” senior post Alyssia Brewer said.
“She was kind of nervous about that.”
After last week, Brewer said that it was good to have everyone there and get down to work.
“I think it was kind of a relief in a way,” she said. “It’s like you have a job. the work schedule doesn’t change.
“You’re going to hear from a lot of people that we’re a family and family sticks together. That’s exactly what we’re doing right now.”

Well here's one positive way to look at this: That's five less fouls the Lady Vols will have to throw at BG.

disciplinary, frustration over not healing completely from her heel injury or both?

First Cain and now Brewer...the post position just became much thinner at for Tennessee.

Tennessee will still be exciting to watch with that point gaurd from Cibolo Texas. Meighan Simmons could be the best point gaurd in the country if #0 wasn't around.

Simmons is very good, but doesn't compare to Skylar Diggins of Notre Dame or our #0.

This year Ariel Massengale will be the point guard. Meighan Simmons will be 2 guard. A more natural position for Simmons.

Brother Bipolar, are you sure you watched their games last year?

It would be nice, Brother Ward, if Meighan Simmons got a little homesick and could go to school at Baylor University in Waco just 170 miles from her home. (Cibolo is actually 15 miles from where I live here in Seguin.) She is a great point guard but I certainly would not trade her for Odyssey Sims. Maybe Meighan could convert to shooting guard?
