Dan Sherwood, our football signee from Amarillo, won 2nd place in the Region 1-5A track meet yesterday with a very nice throw of 56'9" in the shot put. He advances to the state meet in 2 weeks.

LaJerald Betters, Waco High, won the triple jump with 47'7.25" in Region 2-5A. He is also a state leader in the 400, which runs this afternoon. Parrish Cox, Waco University, who we are recruiting as a DB, won the triple jump in the Region 2-4A with 47'9.75". Both Betters and Cox are juniors, I think.

For a 6'7" dude to throw the shot that far it tells me he is very athletic and must have pretty quick feet. I think he was also all-district in basketball. He may end up as one of the most productive from that recruiting class by the time they're thru.

Here are some times of note from Saturday's results:
Clint Renfro (football/track recruit) won the 300 hurdles with 37.42 and placed 6th in the 110 hurdles with 14.68.
Erin Bedell (track signee from Plano West) won the 800 in 2:08.29, the 2nd fastest 800 in state HS history. She also won the 1600 in 4:50.4, a regional record by nearly 10 seconds.
LaGerald Betters (Waco HS) won the 400 with 47.67.
DeMarcus Granger (state #1 recruit last year) won the discuss with 164'11".
Perrish Cox (football recruit) won the long jump with 23'7" and got 5th in the 200 with 21.95.
Manuel Johnson (Gilmer, signed with OU I think) got 3rd in the 100 with 10.91 and won the long jump (23'10.5") and triple jump (47'4").
A couple of other notable performances by girls were a 6' high jump by Epley Bullock (Allen) and a 20'1.25" long jump by Sabrina Taylor (Lufkin).

Renfro ran in the 13's two weeks ago in the 110 hurdles. He must have tripped or had an injury for that time.

Renfro ran in the 13's two weeks ago in the 110 hurdles. He must have tripped or had an injury for that time.

He isn't listed in the top 10 on texastrack.com:
110 Hurdles
13.80, Trevor Gerland, Katy Cinco Ranch13.84, John Thomas, La Porte
13.94*, Eliot O'Hare, Austin LBJ
13.94*, Cordera Jenkins, Dickinson
14.00, Damon Russell, Abilene Cooper
14.04*, Jamaal Charles, Port Arthur Memorial
14.08, Jansen Hyde, Mesquite Poteet
14.09, Jeremy Jackson, Burton
14.14, Tim Thompson, South Grand Prairie
14.16, Geuine Spencer, Baytown Lee
Perhaps he had too much tail wind for it to count.

I just found that Renfro did indeed run a 13.99 in the regional qualifiers meet per dyestat.com. Anyone that can run that is plenty fast enough to play WR in the Big 12.
