Fastest Way from SA to B/CS?

The directions I am getting from Yahoo tell me to go to Austin and go west on Ben White. However, that would put me in Austin around 4:00 P.M. (not good.)

Would it be quicker to take this route or to catch Hwy 21 in San Marcos and cut across to Bastrop?

I am not familiar with that area and could use some help.

Pls. adviseCut across. Avoid the tar pit that is Austin traffic. Or take 10 East and go north on 71 to 21.

I-10 to 71 is backtracking, Yogi.

Simply go on I-35 north to 21. 21 goes into Collieville. You'll cross 71 in Bastrop and 290 in Giddings (I think). 21 goes fairly smoothly, too. They are right-- avoid Austin at that time.

Also, ditch the mapquest and buy a map. mapquest is for idiots.

Absolutely! I used the satellite images to get an idea of buildings/ road conditions along the way.
