A thread is ongoing over at hornfans.com similar to this one and the discussion has spilled over to the DART Rail thread. I think it is only fair that it continues on a brand new one.....plus I am bored.
Best Bars:
Favorite bar overall : The Loon....decent food, strong drinks, smoky atmosphere, not quite as plastic as lower greenville
Uptown : MAT, Frankies, Grapevine, T'Beaux,Melrose hotel bar, and of course as stated above, The Loon
Greenville Ave/N. Henderson: Service Bar, Beagle, Mike's Treehouse, Milos, Humperdinks, Village Country Club happy hour, Barley House, Cuba Libre, Old Monk
East of Dallas : Lone Star Oyster Bar at Lake Ray Hubbard, Bennigans on E NW Hwy (plenty of ex-SGHS Southern Belles for those who know what I am referring to)
North Dallas/ Addison : Only place I have been to worth mentioning is Logans....they actually played Gimme Dat Nutt by Eazy E
Lakewood Area: Cock and Bull, Tipperary Inn, Elbow Room (talk about a dive with chicks who will grind on you all night long....plus many of them are nurses or dental students)
**** areas of Dallas : Red Lion on Harry Hines, Stratos at W NW Hwy and Harry Hines, Johnny's Club Vegas (where a can of domestic will cost you 75 cents), King's Cabaret on Market Center (brings back memories of Showtime Club)
Best place to get an easy, yet sophisticated piece of ass: Anatole Hotel bar on a weeknight
Worst bars in Dallas: Martini Ranch, Ben's Half yard House, Jack's Pub, anything near Addison Circle
feel free to discuss this topic with me or add your own picks...

Try Beau Nash in the Crescent on Wednesdays and Thursdays. All of the Park Cities lonely wives show up [husbands out of town]. Many visit a room upstairs before returning home.
r
p.s. It may be the number 1 spot in DFW for the high end working girls.
Adair's in Deep Ellum: Lone Star in a can for a buck and the best alcohol sopping burger in your life.
Austin Avenue on Parker in Plano: You might lose a year of life due to smoke inhalation, but the food is good, beer is cheap, and TV screens all over everywhere.
Milo Butterfinger's on Greenville and ?: Great jalapeno cheeseburger with pitchers of all kind of beer. SMU chicks in abundance later in the night. (Stefano can fill in the other street)
DECEASED LIST:
1st and 10 on upper Greenville. Best burger in Dallas and plenty of horny chicks walking out of LaBere. Please oh please let this place open again.
I really don't fit into the 'scene' at Deep Ellum. Because I think that there is a 2 piercings and 1 tatoo quota to get into some of the bars / clubs.
Bar Dallas (West End) or Groovy Mule (in Denton) on Thurs is a good bar/dance club to go to meet some nice young college-aged ladies you can take home to your mother (if your mother is into tight little bodies squeezed into the latest fashions in pleather).
I hate 90% of the bars in Greenville because it's more about how you look and showing off than having a good time [Think Crickets or Treff's but with way more money]. But, the Beagle is definitely one of my favorite bars. It's laid back and the chicks there are down to earth and less of the gold diggin' caliber. Definitely go check it out. It's a great place to go with your buddies and drink and chill.
If I don't want to go far to drink, I hit up Hupperdinks in Las Colinas.
I had no idea that "Austin Avenue on Parker in Plano" would make anybody's short list. I eat there occasionally for lunch and it is really cheap and quick. The food is actually really good. However I've never been there during the "prime time" hours. Where do you stand with regards to "The Fox and the Hound". There is one off of Midway in far north Dallas and another over in north Arlington. I thought both had high potential given that the Sorry Bar (aka Safari Bar) bit it.
There is also a Fox and Hound by my office in Lewisville, but the wait staff is terrible. Takes forever to get a beer or drink and then even longer to get change. The one on Midway is better than the one in Lewisville. Once upon a time, a younger Wacoso lived across the street from Fox and Hound on Midway and stumbled home at close with friends to get groove on in Townhome. I miss living across from that easy wool pulling place.
Disco Stu,
Adair's in Deep Ellum is a no tattoo crowd and you are more likely to hear Redneck Mother than anything else coming out of the door.
Case - Are you, a self-professed UT hater, admitting you go over to hornfans.com? And you call ME a "UT bootlicker?" LOL!
I will concur that the Loon is probably one of my favorite bars, but the food stinks. Another in that area that I love is Cuba Libre on N. Henderson. Has an upstairs and downstairs area, both complete with patios and mist machines (for hot nights). A little on the pricey side and you'll definitely find the crowd to be a tad "upscale" but the food and and frozen Cuba Libres are worth it.
I'll second all the one's Case mentioned under the Greenville/N. Henderson category.
Addison: Logan's - great "old school" music, big TV screens and lots of eye candy (more so for the women) and NO cover (always a plus). The restrooms could use a little renovation, though. The Flying Saucer and the Londoner would be my other two choices in Addison. Both have dart boards and a huge selection of beer. Pete's Dueling Piano bar is a lot of fun, if you can get past the crowd being 85% Tech-Exes.
The Old Crow, Whiskey Bar, The Dubliner, Milos and the (old) Greenville Ave. Bar and Grill are all happenin' spots. GAB&G used to have a Beatles cover band on Friday nights that was awesome! Across the Street Bar (home of the 25 cent pitcher) and Stone Poney (penny pitchers) were fun and cheap places to go when I was underage.
Does Plano have any cool bars?? Obzeets off Preston & George Bush is probably the closest thing to Plano that's a decent bar/restaurant, but it's quite pricey w/mediocre clientele.
Pea - F&H in Dallas sucks. The one in Ft. Worth is 10 times better. The only bar I can think of in that area that's "okay" is Carson's Palace off Trinity Mills/Tollway.
"Adair's in Deep Ellum is a no tattoo crowd and you are more likely to hear Redneck Mother than anything else coming out of the door."
Wacoso - Adair's may not be the typical tattooed bar w/people who's faces look like human tackle boxes, but I've seen plenty of tats there. A friend of mine plays there with his band sometimes and they get a lot of "greasers" with tattoos of 8-balls and flames.
You could well be right about the bar scene. I'm an old, married guy and don't care about doing the bar scene anymore. However I do very much trust WacoOso's judgement. If he think that Austin Ave is hopping, then I have no doubts.

good call on 1st and 10. Had a friend come in one weekend and we went to VCC and all. He complained about how his lines weren't working because he worked at Loews and lived with his parents. I said, "it's off to 1st and 10." when he still complained once we got there I told him...."look, why do you think God invented lying" then the next thing I knew it was 10 am the next morning and he was trudging through my front door with a big grin on his face.
Pea - Huh? I don't know about Austin Avenue. Never heard of it. It sounds like it's close to where I'm moving to in a couple months, so maybe I'll check it out.
Stu - Are you talking about the Reagal Beagle near La Bare or The Beagle on lower Greenville? RB was a great little hole-in-the-wall hangout when I lived in the Village.

Please tell me you are joking....the Regal Beagle of 3's company fame was probably better than RB of La Bare area fame...although they did have some strong drinks.
No, I'm not joking. That place was great, especially considering I was underage most of the times I went. They had tons of pool tables and strong, CHEAP drinks.
they did have strong drinks but like the law abiding citizen that I am, I was of legal drinking age....I probably hit on you a few times there, who knew, eh?
