Darryl Gardener arrested for IHOP fight
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/foo...os_arrests_ap/
AURORA, Colo. (AP) -- Two Denver Broncos were arrested after an altercation on Friday with another customer at a restaurant, police said.
Defensive tackles Russell Newman and Daryl Gardener were arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct after the 2:35 a.m. incident at an IHOP restaurant, police spokesman Dan Mark said. They were booked and released on personal recognizance bonds.
An argument inside the restaurant over a long wait to be seated spilled out into the parking lot, according to a police report.
Team spokesman Jim Saccomano said he was not aware of the incident.
Gardener joined the Broncos in March after starting 15 games last year for the Washington Redskins.Last edited by NewsBruin; 07-19-03 at 03:43 AM.

IHOP stinks anyway. At 2:35 in the morning, DG should go home and go to bed. I used to tell my kids that in a big town, there is nothing much that's good happens after midnight.

How much orange juice must a customer at IHOP drink to want to start a fight with someone as huge as the Manchild?

Here's the fallout ...
Why does it happen that top athletes get injured doing stupid things?
DENVER (AP) -- Broncos defensive tackle Daryl Gardener will have surgery after tearing wrist ligaments during a fight last week and is expected to miss the first two weeks of the season.
Following surgery on Thursday, Gardener will be in a cast for six weeks and will need two more weeks of recovery after that, Broncos spokesman Paul Kirk said.
That means Gardener would miss all of Denver's preseason games and the first two regular games of the season.
Gardener and Broncos defensive tackle Russell Newman were arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct after a fight with another customer at a restaurant early Friday morning.
Police said a third person was involved in the fight, which started with an argument inside the restaurant over a long wait to be seated.
Kirk would not say whether the Broncos would discipline the players.
Gardener joined the Broncos in March after starting 15 games last year for the Washington Redskins. Newman, released by the Philadelphia Eagles during last year's training camp, was signed in January.
--
Do you think this affects Gardener's chances of making the 53-man roster by training camp? Might he get cut and re-signed to a lower contract as a disciplinary measure?

Mad because of the wait at IHOP?
Man, who hasn't been there.
DG, if you're reading this, I'm right there with ya, and I'll start a Cafe Brazil in your hood soon.

Anyone who would get in a fight with Daryl Gardener deserves to be beaten sensless for his stupidity.

I think he'll have a job somewhere in the NFL. This is a league where good DLinemen can have a nice career. If he doesn't make it there, he'll make it somewhere else.
But as much as I love my fellow Bears, he let his school's and team's reputation down, as well as his teammates, by getting in and staying in a fight and putting himself out of commission for two regular season games.

I sat beside DG in a poli sci class. that guy's shoulders were so broad that I had to sit at a 45 degree angle.
Any one that would challenge DG to a fight over a booth at IHOP either has nuts of steel or takes their pancakes way too seriously.

who the heck hasn't been to an IHOP/waffle house/etc. at 3 am wanting some chow? lordy, I'm an old married guy and I find myself in that position from time to time.
however, whoever chose to tangle with 2 NFL dlinemen is in need of a mental review.

The worst fight I have seen at an IHOP was in Houston on a Saturday night. The one off Richmond near Kingfish Market. Two drag queens got into a HUGE brawl. Never has bloodshed been so damn funny.
