Hey Jason, I've private messaged you many times asking if we can have polls in the Waco forum for this exact type of question but have had no response from you.

Any chance we can get polls for best restaurants on the Waco forum? Maybe pin a few to the top?

If we are talking Waco, I don't think anyone has dethroned Helberg and Guess

But Terry Black's is coming soon. Should be another solid option

Herbergs and Guess are my go-to places. Both do it the right way and are extremely solid. Helberg was rated in Top 50 BBQ joints in Texas Monthly recently.

Edit: I still go to Rudy's a lot. They have a great smoked turkey breast thats hard to beat. But if I'm going brisket, its helbergs or guess.

Brisket at Helberg is second best I have ever had. Only behind Franklin.

More votes for Helberg and Guess. If I have time to spare, I go to Helberg. If I need a closer option, I go to Guess. Both are excellent. The Sunday brunch items at Guess are great too. At Helberg, I love the brisket and sausage, and their pork ribs are literally the best I've ever had….and I eat a lot of BBQ at the best spots in Texas! They're that good.

Now there are also times when I crave a GutPak and go to Vitek's, but it's not really the BBQ that's taking me there.

Terry Blacks will be a nice addition and the best atmosphere out of the soon-to-be Big 3. That beef rib is so damn good, but be prepared to drop some coin. It's a bit of an honor that they're opening in Waco, as they only have three other locations.

That said, I really like both Helberg and Guess already. They raised the profile for Waco 'Cue so much.

The jalapeño and Gouda sausage they make in-house at Helberg is the GOAT Texas BBQ sausage. It is otherworldly good.

Just like the Basin Climbing Gym in Hewitt that was supposed to open in September, no progress has happened as far as I can tell. As is Waco tradition it'll probably never come.

I think the Trib mentioned they just pulled building permits recently for Terry Black's and a separate oyster bar concept to go into that old warehouse behind Union Hall. It's going to take a lot of work, so I wouldn't expect it to open until sometime next year. Maybe by spring or summer if we're lucky.

Thanks. Per your suggestion, I asked Brian. He is looking into it now.

I saw some thing saying Helberg on Franklin but they gave barnette's address? Are they collaborating or just giving them old stuff like what they did with nightline? I don't think their new smoker does as good of a job. Last couple times I've been it has lacked some of the flavor.

Having Helberg's downtown is going to be awesome! This is just a few blocks from me downtown…will definitely be hitting this up in the fall during football season!

I don't live in Waco and when I'm in town don't go downtown a lot but has Barnetts always had a patio? I've only heen Mayne twice and has been 2 years since my last visit. Don't remember there being a patio

They got rid of the parking lot next door and put some stuff in... I don't go over there that much but it hasn't looked all that busy the few times we have passed by.

thanks. Figured that's what happened. Hopefully the food truck addition helps bring more traffic to them. Need anything in downtown Waco to thrive. More that thrives, more that wants to come in and make downtown better.

Yep. They're hoping November now. THey were supposed to be done by February this year. The lag time on inspections and what not is horrific right now.
