I support individual dissent in the Congress. The democrats will have the squad to deal with if they ever get the majority back. It won't ever happen, but it would be a great day to see political parties abolished. They have just become two more powerful special interest groups in Washington. Get that garbage out and start doing the job for the people they represent.

If we the voters quit voting for people that don't actually do the job of representing, Congress would be very different and be forced to change a lot of rules of operation. Nutjobs would be left to find areas that have a lot of nutjobs to represent. Honest dissent would be present and Representatives and Senators could vote like their constituents want them to. Each bill would need to ind a new coalition to get passed. Votes on unread bills would be rare.

Fresh Off Defeat in Speaker Fight, Greene Relishes the Chaos She Wrought
The hard-right congresswoman from Georgia failed spectacularly in her bid to depose Speaker Mike Johnson. But for a figure who sees her power in creating chaos, the loss was the point.

So now losses are positives for MAGA? This is why the GOP is on its way to irrelevance, this attitude. The point of Congress is to win and get policy approved. GOP seems to think it is some ethical pulpit to make a statement. The statement is what you get done and build! Not words.

She's better than 99% of the other critters in Congress. Her effort basically revealed that Johnson was compromised. The democrat effort to save him showed that they were content with him as speaker because he gives them enough of what they want. Particularly in an election year, if they can get 75% of what they want from Johnson and leave GOP fingerprints on unpopular policy, its good for them. Jeffries said as much.

His credentials have been tarnished since assuming the speaker role. He has simply done much more for the democrats (the minority party) than his party (the majority). It's his job to whip the votes and pass a conservative agenda. He has done the opposite and given Biden everything he wants.

Geez, he is not in a position to stop anything. GOP can't vote on anything reliably, far right is justxas bad as Collins and Murasraki.

You say it would be better to get nothing done. You really think he should stop everything? Nothing of value gets done. That would go over well in an election year? A million workers not getting paid.

But it would be good for your political believes and obviously you don't use anything Government related. You are independent of the Govt, as it should be.... Screw the rest. Bad life or money choices right.

It would cost 6 billion a week for a shut down. By the time you add up the cost and the damage to GDP it is cheaper to do what Johnson did. But Johnson is really a closet Dem and has been a mole just activated by Biden.... Better call Donald, Johnson has him fooled.

Its really too late now. No more omnibus. No money for foreign wars without securing the border. He could pass small simple spending bills to keep vital functions going. Kinda like the things he promised.

So yes, I'm ready for a shut down rather than business as usual. You are a fool if you don't think the democrats would shut down the government for 4 years to get what they want.

You are making a lot of incorrect assumptions about my income related to govt. I'm sorry if you are reliant on it.

I have no problem short of shutting down and harming people that are doing nothing but their job. Also, I think it is naive to think a Nation of 365 million and as big as the US is geographically needs a skeleton Govt. Compared to the size and population of other nations we do pretty well keeping it reasonable. We are not in 1950, it is only going to get bigger and more expensive. No way the size of Govt is decreasing. Or that having the private sector run those services will be less expensive or cheaper. Private will provide less services for higher fees, whatever makes their profitability better.

He hasn't gotten any concessions for republicans and continues to advance the democrats agenda.

And why is that? You think Johnson's plan for the last 20 years was to play conservative, win Speaker and then accomplish a Dem agenda? He is a Dem mole?

You're not wrong, but is that really the issue here? IIRC it was about foreign aid and border security, not welfare.
