You have been misled about the real events of Copernicus and Galileo. I fairly certain that I have responded to this false claim before.

The Church did not reject Copernicus' heliocentric model. It wasn't unit Galileo presented it as fact, rather than theory, did the Pope have issue. The whole situation turned into a petty pissing match instigated by Galileo, whom the Pope had previously financially backed, when their relationship turn sour.
