a lot of people are claiming that this was just an attack for show.... that the Iranian regime knew that it would fail, but they needed to "save face" and have some form of retaliation for the attack in Syria.

It is really surprising how few people realize that this was actually a test of the Iron Dome system and the Israeli defensive capabilities.

When the real attack comes, the Iranians and their allies will NOT use drones in the initial attacks. They will soften up the defenses with ballistic missiles, and only use the drones once the Iron Dome has been significantly damaged & depleted.

The morons on the left are claiming that this was a great victory for Israel. It was a test, designed to expose any weaknesses in the defensive capabilities. They held back their best offensive options. They launched hundreds of missiles & drones from hundreds & hundreds of miles away, instead of launching the tens of thousands of missiles in Lebanon... less than 100 miles from their targets.

When the real attack comes, the first wave will be tens of thousands of Hezbollah missiles (funded by Bidens support of Iran), and they will be far more effective than missiles launched from Iran, Iraq and Yemen.

"Behind the scenes: Biden told Netanyahu the joint defensive efforts by Israel, the U.S. and other countries in the region led to the failure of the Iranian attack, according to the White House official.

"You got a win. Take the win," Biden told Netanyahu, according to the official.

The official said that when Biden told Netanyahu that the U.S. will not participate in any offensive operations against Iran and will not support such operations, Netanyahu said he understood."

So barring an Israeli response this should go back to the status quo.

What the lack of response would mean for Netenyahu's political future, I dont know. But this administration wants him out anyway.
Zero chance the situation reverts back to a status quo.

Iranian attack was an embarrassing failure. They will have to do some to regain the confidence of the Iranian people. Mostly likely attack cargo shipping in the strait.

Or resume proxy missile attacks against Israel from Lebanon.

US tactical aid shooting down dozens of Iranian missiles and drones is an obvious act of war. Sooner rather than later Iran will retaliate against US naval or ground units .

The only way out of this mess is for Israel to declare ' victory ' in the Gaza Strip and get the hell out.

The problem is the two state solution is that the proposals often do not take into account the complexities of the situation as in a way that makes it viable. The Palestinians point out the continued growth of settlements in the West Bank even though Israel has said it would not allow anymore.

Over 700,000 Israelis live in West Bank Settlements. The two-sides can't agree on what happens to these settlements. Israel wants them to become part of Israel and the Palestinians say they need to be gone.

Also, another big issue is the partition of Jerusalem. This is difficult due to Holy sites and cultural significance.

The last is the right to return. Can Palestinians and their descendants who lived in the boundaries of Israel before it became a nation return? I understand both sides of this issue, and there is not an easy solution.

Most of the proposed 2 state solutions are skewed towards the Israelis, and even with that many Israelis do not support it. The Palestinians look at it as we get none of our concessions, so we do not support it.

Also, a large portion of Israelis including Netanyahu have never supported it either.

The failure of the two state solution is on both sides because Israel wants its cake and to it eat too, and Palestinians hope that the tables will turn in the future hinders their ability to accept the realities of today.

Has any Palestinian group ever not advocated for the destruction of Israel? Has any Palestinian group condemned Oct 7?

This is the exact intractable mindset that I was writing about. Israel has done just as many horrors as Palestine.

Iran launches massive drone and missile attack against Israel.

No one should be surprised.

Meanwhile the US continues to be nominally led by an old dementia sufferer .

Historic events continue to evolve in the same old pattern .

In possibly the biggest surprise was the actions of JORDAN shooting down several of the missiles as they crossed their airspace .

Actually, not a huge surprise. Jordan has had good relations with Israel for 20+ years and that has been good for them.

After all that has occurred in that Strait it is inexcusable that our Navy would allow that to happen .

Someone must have told the Navy to stand down .

Most of what our Navy & govt has allowed to happen in the Red Sea & that region is inexcusable. We have been finding out the hard way for 3 years what it means to have a weak leader who wants to be friends with terrorists & other enemies while treating our friends like crap. Actually, Obama did that for most of his 8 years and we saw some of that under Bill & Hillary ("two for the price of one!").

You FUNDED It! Biden's Statement (AFTER Calling a Lid) on Iran's Attack Against Israel Goes REALLY Wrong https://twitchy.com/samj/2024/04/14/biden-statement-iran-n2395073

Questions that deserve clear answers:

How many billions of dollars of military equipment did midden leave in Afghanistan?
How much of that equipment was used by Hamas to attack Israel on October 7 and since then?
How many billions of dollars in cash did Obama & then Biden give Iran enabling terrorism & their development of nukes?

We already have an idea on the first but I don't expect honest answers in the rest. Those answers might be treasonous.

Don't understand the relationship between questions 1 and 2

Israel and Iran: What Now

"Meanwhile, Israel has declared that it will respond and is already debating military options, which include long-range strikes on military bases or even nuclear installations in Iran.It is estimated that Israel spent half a billion dollars in just a few hours in the defense against the attack.According to Israeli sources, Israel will retaliate against Iran 'in the next 48 hours'."

This would be a mistake. Israeli air defenses are not invulnerable, and this sort of escalatory tit-for-tat could be the start of something unfortunate.

Just an aside: what is behind leftist journalists calling this region "West Asia" instead of "the Middle East"? Their motivation to replace BC/AD with BCE/CE was an obvious slap at Jesus but the motivation of this latest bit of corruption of the English language is less obvious.

I guess this is an area you are ok with sending US Forces and spending money in a shooting war? We really need a scorecard to figure out which areas are OK to go full military and what areas are "military industrial complex" Neo-Con profit plans.

Personally, I believe we will regret leaving Afghanistan, that area in the next 100 years will be more important due to resources, location and alliances. We were in a good position, something Russia couldn't do.
